The Wee House On The Hill
The Wee House on the Hill is a one-bedroom cottage near the top of Wirksworth. It's detached. You'll get a small, enclosed patio garden to yourselves with a view out over the rooftops and fields.
It sleeps two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. The restoration was done to a high standard, so it's comfortable and has things like a dishwasher and a washing machine. There's a wood burner in the main room.
The stairs are quite steep and narrow. That's just how it was built in the 18th century.
Wirksworth is a proper market town. There's a Co-op supermarket, a few pubs, and some good independent cafes and shops. They're about five minutes walk down the hill. The town has a small cinema and a monthly farmers' market. The heritage centre is worth a look if you want to know about the area's history.
You can walk straight onto the footpaths from the door. The High Peak Trail and Black Rocks are right there for cycling or walking. Carsington Water is about ten minutes by car if you want to sail or walk the reservoir path.
For a day out, the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage sites at Cromford and Masson Mills are very close. Chatsworth House is about a twenty-five minute drive. The Peak District National Park authority site has good information for planning walks: Peak District National Park.
Facilities: all the bedding and towels are included. There's WiFi and parking for one car on the street outside. No pets, sorry.
