The Smithy

The Smithy is in Brassington, which is up in the hills between Ashbourne and Matlock. It's detached and made of old stone, like most of the village. You've got a bit of your own garden, enclosed with a wall, which is handy if you're bringing dogs.

It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, one bathroom with a shower. The rating is 4 Star. It's a comfortable place, not showy. There are original features like stone walls inside, which we like. The stairs are typical for a cottage of this age, so be mindful if you have anyone unsteady on their feet.

There are two pubs in the village, both about a two minute walk away. They do food. For a bigger shop, Wirksworth is about a ten minute drive.

Carsington Water is two miles down the road. You can sail, fish, or just walk around it. It's a big reservoir. The High Peak Trail is right there too for cycling or walking. If you like stately homes, Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are both within half an hour. So are Bakewell and Buxton. Alton Towers is about twenty five minutes away if that's your thing.

Facilities: there's a woodburning stove for the colder months, a dishwasher, Wi-Fi, and parking for two cars next to the cottage. Bedding and towels are included. We have a cot and a highchair if you need them. You can bring up to two dogs.
