Mill Pond Cottage is in Cromford village, right next to the pond. It’s a terrace cottage. You can sit inside or outside and watch the ducks and geese on the water. The pond fed Arkwright’s mill and the waterwheel still turns, which is a nice bit of history.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It’s a 4 Star, so it’s comfortable and well kept. The kitchen and living space is all on the ground floor. The stairs to the bedrooms are steep, like a lot of these old places.
There’s a shop and a pub about fifty yards away. The pub serves food. A restaurant is just a bit further on.
Walking is good right from the door. You can walk along the canal to Cromford Mills, or up to the High Peak Trail and Black Rocks. Carsington Water is a short drive. It’s good for a walk, watersports if you’re into that, or birdwatching.
Matlock Bath is a mile away, with its souvenir shops and the Heights of Abraham. Matlock itself is two miles for shops. Bakewell is about twenty minutes by car for the market and the puddings. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are also within half an hour.
Facilities: WiFi, TV, washing machine, bedding and towels are included, and there’s a parking space. No pets, sorry.
