The Stables At Riber Hall

The Stables is in Riber, a small hamlet just outside Matlock. It's high up, so the views over the countryside are good. It used to be the stables for Riber Hall, which is next door and privately owned, so you don't have access to the hall itself.

It sleeps up to twenty four people. There are ten bedrooms and every one has its own bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. The layout is a bit different. Each bedroom is like its own little studio flat, with a door lock, a small kitchen area, and a dining space. They're all different sizes, from 17 to 40 square metres.

The main shared space is a separate building. You get to it by walking across the garden via an uncovered path. That's where the big kitchen, dining room, and living area with a conservatory are. It means everyone can get together for meals, but you can also retreat to your own room.

The garden is large and enclosed. There's a heated terrace with furniture, and lots of movable tables and chairs so you can set things up how you like. It's a good space if you're all wanting to be outside together.

It's a rural spot. The nearest pub is about a mile and a half away. The shop is two miles, in Matlock. You'll want a car.

For things to do, you're well placed. Matlock Bath is under four miles away. It's an unusual place, a bit like a seaside town but in a valley. There are cafes, chip shops, and the cable car up to the Heights of Abraham. Cromford, which is part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, is close by. The market town of Bakewell is about twenty minutes' drive. For walking, the Peak District is right there. The Peak District National Park site is useful for planning routes.

In terms of what's here: all bedding and towels are included. There's WiFi, parking on site, and an electric vehicle charger. Every bedroom has a TV and a mini-kitchen with a microwave oven, fridge, and kettle. The main kitchen has the full-sized ovens and hobs. No pets, sorry.
