The Malt Shovel
The Malt Shovel is in Alton, a small village in Derbyshire. It’s a converted barn in the grounds of our house. The barn is detached so it’s private. You get a small, enclosed patio area with it.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, both with their own bathrooms. The beds are made up for you. It has a 4 Star rating, which means it’s comfortable and everything works.
Because it’s an old building, the ceilings are low in some places. The main beam in the living room, you’ll need to duck if you’re tall. The doors aren’t very wide either. It’s got wood floors downstairs and a wood burner. We leave some logs for you to get started.
There’s a dishwasher, a washing machine, and wifi. You can park right outside the barn. We allow one well-behaved dog.
The local shop and pub are about a mile away in the next village. You can walk from the door straight into the countryside.
Matlock is about seven miles away for supermarkets and other shops. Chatsworth House is a twenty minute drive. Hardwick Hall is about half an hour. For walking, the Peak District National Park is right here. Carsington Water is good if you like sailing or cycling, that’s about twenty minutes by car.
