The Malt Shovel
The Malt Shovel is in Alton, out in the Derbyshire countryside. It's a detached barn we converted, in the grounds of our house. It's very quiet here.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, both with their own bathrooms. It has a 4 Star rating. The stairs are the main thing to know. They're the original ones, so they're steep and a bit narrow.
There's a woodburning stove for cooler evenings. The garden is enclosed, so it's secure for a dog. We allow one well-behaved pet.
You can walk straight out from the door into the fields. For a pint or supplies, the nearest pub and shop are about a mile away.
It's a good spot for getting around. You're about seven miles from Matlock. Chatsworth House is close, and so is Haddon Hall. Carsington Water is within half an hour if you fancy sailing or fishing. The show caves at Castleton are a straightforward drive.
Facilities wise: it has parking, WiFi, a washing machine, and a dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included.
