Quarry Cottage
Quarry Cottage is in Lea, which is a village near Matlock. It's a single-storey annex attached to our house, but it's completely separate and private. You get your own front door and a small patio with chairs.
It sleeps two. One bedroom with a big bed, and a shower room. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's tidy and well-equipped. Because it's all on one level, it's suitable if stairs are a problem. The doorways are standard width though.
The kitchen and living area are open plan. It's a decent size for two people. There's a washing machine.
We allow up to two dogs. There's a hook and lead in the garden area out front so you can tether them safely.
Lea is quiet. There's a pub about a ten minute walk away. For a bigger shop, you'd drive into Matlock or Matlock Bath.
You can walk straight from the door into the countryside. About a mile away is the Cromford Mills area, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's the site of the first water-powered cotton mills. It's interesting to look around.
Matlock Bath is about four miles away. It's a strange and busy place along the river. There are fish and chip shops, arcades, and the cable car up to the Heights of Abraham. Bakewell is about six miles in the other direction.
For planning trips, the Peak District National Park website is useful. Also English Heritage covers the local industrial history sites.
Facilities: Wi-Fi, TV, parking right outside, bedding and towels included. There's a kids' play area in the village, a couple of minutes walk away.
