The Old Church is in Alton, Derbyshire. It's a detached place, as you'd guess. I used to be the village church before it was converted.
It sleeps four in two bedrooms. Both bedrooms have their own en-suite shower rooms. There's also a third bathroom downstairs with a big freestanding bath. The finish is very high quality. The rating is 5 Star, which means it's done to a high spec. The kitchen is oak with a coffee machine, and there's a wood burner in the living room.
The main features are the original windows and the stonework. The arched windows are nice. They let in a lot of light. The garden at the back looks out over fields and you can see Bolsover Castle in the distance.
Alton itself is quiet. It's a hamlet. The proper village is Ashover, about a mile away. They've got a couple of pubs and shops there. Good farm shops nearby too. You'll need a car.
For walks, you can start from the door. There are footpaths all through the Ashover area. Peak District National Park has all the maps.
Within about fifteen to twenty minutes' drive, you've got Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, and Hardwick Hall. Matlock is close, with the Heights of Abraham cable cars and Matlock Bath. Bakewell is about twenty minutes away. Chesterfield, with the crooked spire church, is fifteen minutes. For a day out, Bolsover Castle is run by English Heritage and isn't far. Carsington Water is nearby if you want to do watersports.
Facilities: there's parking for two or three cars. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and highchair. No pets, sorry.
