Catmint Cottage

Catmint Cottage is in Lea, a village just outside Matlock. It's a detached, stone built cottage. It sleeps six people, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. One of the bedrooms has its own en-suite. It's a 4 Star property, which means it's comfortable and well looked after.

The garden is a real feature. It's bigger than it looks from the front. There's a proper stream running through it and a little bridge. Across the stream is a meadow area that belongs to the cottage too, so you can use that. It's peaceful.

Inside, it's been done up to a good standard. The kitchen is modern with a dishwasher and washing machine. There's a TV with internet. The stairs are the original ones, so they're a bit steep and turn a corner, but there's a handrail.

Lea itself is quiet. There's a well-regarded pub in walking distance, and the John Smedley mill shop is here if you're after quality knitwear. Matlock Bath is about a ten minute drive away. It's an unusual place, like a seaside town but in the hills, with arcades and fish and chips.

You're right on the edge of the Peak District. The Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath is close, you can take a cable car up and walk in the caves. For a big day out, Chatsworth House is about twenty five minutes by car. Haddon Hall is a similar drive. Both are proper stately homes with large grounds.

The cottage allows one well-behaved dog. There's parking for two cars on the gravel drive. Bedding and towels are included.

For planning walks or visits, these are useful: Peak District National Park and National Trust Peak District.
