Cornstore Cottage is in Whatstandwell. It's a converted stone barn, detached, so it's on its own. It's next to a sheep field.
It's for two people. One bedroom with its own shower room. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and everything works. The room is open plan downstairs, with the kitchen at one end and the sitting area at the other. The beams are low in some doorways. I'm tall and I bang my head on the one by the stairs.
The village tea room is about a three minute walk away, down by the river. They do lunch and cakes. For a pint, the pub is a mile up the road in Alderwasley.
The main thing here is walking. You're on the Derwent Valley Heritage Way straight from the door. The High Peak Trail and the Cromford Canal are very close. You can hire bikes nearby on the High Peak Trail if you fancy it.
Matlock Bath is five miles. It's a bit of a Victorian seaside town but inland. They've got the Heights of Abraham cable car there, which goes up to show caverns. Crich Tramway Museum is about the same distance.
For a day out, you're within ten miles of Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, and Carsington Water. Bakewell is close for a market and a pudding. Alton Towers is maybe 45 minutes by car.
Facilities are all standard: parking right outside, towels and bed linens are provided. It's electric heating. You can bring one dog.
If you're looking into the area, Peak District National Park has the main walking maps and information.
