Cornstore Cottage is in Whatstandwell. It’s what it says on the tin, an old corn store that’s been converted. It’s detached, so you’re on your own.
It’s for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It’s got a 4 Star rating, which means it’s well done and comfortable. The stairs are the main thing to know about. They’re cottage stairs, so they’re steep and a bit narrow. You get used to them.
It’s quiet here. The back looks onto a sheep field and woods. There’s a village tea room about 300 yards away, down by the river. They do lunch and cakes. The local pub is about a mile off.
You’re right on the edge of the Peak District. For walks, you can pick up the Cromford Canal towpath or the Derwent Valley trails easily. About five miles away there’s a lot to do: the Heights of Abraham cable car in Matlock Bath, the Tramway Museum at Crich, or you can hire bikes on the High Peak Trail.
For a big day out, Chatsworth House is about ten miles. So is Carsington Water for sailing and windsurfing. Bakewell, with the market and pudding shops, is also within that range.
The cottage has parking right outside. Everything is open plan downstairs. You can bring one dog. All the bedding and towels are included.
