Shire Cottage

Shire Cottage is on our farm in Whatstandwell. It's a working farm, so you'll see sheep and the occasional tractor. The cottage itself is old, built in the 1600s. It's one of a pair, Nightingale Cottage is next door.

It sleeps five. Three bedrooms upstairs, one bathroom downstairs. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's comfortable and clean. The stairs are steep. That's just how old cottages are.

You get your own garden area. It's quiet here. The farm's in a valley, so you're looking out at fields and trees. We've got badgers, foxes, and lots of birds.

You can walk straight from the door. The Cromford Canal path runs through the farm land. The River Derwent is at the bottom of the field. If you fish, you're welcome to try the pond or our stretch of the river. No charge.

The local pub is about a mile's walk. It serves food. The closest shop is three quarters of a mile.

You're right on the edge of the Peak District. Matlock Bath is ten minutes in the car. For a big day out, Chatsworth House is about twenty-five minutes. Carsington Water is fifteen minutes for sailing or a walk. Alton Towers is about forty minutes if that's your sort of thing.

In the cottage there's a washing machine, WiFi, and a TV. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and a highchair. You can bring one well-behaved dog. There's parking right outside.
