Calf Close Barn is in Slack, near Ashover in Derbyshire. It's a converted stone barn on its own, detached. It sleeps four, in two bedrooms, and has one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating.
The barn overlooks Ashover village. It's in our grounds, about 25 acres, next to our house which is an old Elizabethan manor. It's a proper rural spot. There's a small flock of Gotland sheep in the fields around it, and you'll see chickens and geese about.
You can walk or cycle straight from the door. One path goes down into Ashover village, which is about a mile. The village has a shop, a post office that does coffee, and four pubs that serve food. There's a farm shop just outside the village at Kelstedge.
The barn is about ten minutes by car from Ogston Reservoir. You can sail or windsurf there, or go birdwatching. Matlock is about the same distance. It's got antique shops and cafes. Matlock Bath has the cable car up to the Heights of Abraham.
Bakewell is about half an hour away. That's where you go for the Bakewell pudding. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are in that direction too, also around 30 minutes. Chesterfield is about 20 minutes away, you can see the crooked spire. Alton Towers is roughly an hour if you've got people who want that.
For facilities, it's got parking, a garden, WiFi, and a TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. No pets, sorry.
