West Barn is a stone barn conversion here in Holymoorside. It's detached, with its own garden and a stream running along the side. The main thing is the space, it's bright and feels quite open inside.
It sleeps eight. Four bedrooms, two bathrooms. It's got a 5 Star rating, which means everything is in good order. There's a wood burning stove for cooler evenings.
Being detached, it's quiet. You're in the countryside but it's not remote. There's a shop and a couple of pubs about half a mile down the road in the village.
The location is the main point. You're right on the edge of the Peak District. You can walk straight from the door onto the local moors. For driving, you're about four miles from Chesterfield, which has all the shops and the famous crooked spire.
Within half an hour you've got a lot. Chatsworth House and Gardens are close. So is Haddon Hall. For the kids, the farmyard and playground at Chatsworth is popular. Bakewell is about twenty minutes away. Bolsover Castle and Hardwick Hall are both in that range too. If you like walking or cycling, you're already in it.
The facilities are pretty complete. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking on site and, new for this year, an electric vehicle charger. We've got a cot, highchair, and stairgate if you need them. The garden is enclosed. No pets, I'm afraid.
Some useful links if you're planning days out: Peak District National Park, Chatsworth (National Trust), and Bolsover Castle (English Heritage).
