Ramblers Retreat

Ramblers Retreat is in Tansley, near Matlock. It’s a detached wooden lodge. The main thing is it’s right next to a small lake. It’s private and quiet.

It’s for two people. One bedroom with a king size bed, one bathroom. It’s got a 4 Star rating. Everything’s on the ground floor, which is handy. The layout is open plan, so the living, kitchen and dining area is all one room. Doors open out to a small patio.

The place is dog friendly. You can bring up to three pets.

Outside, there’s a patio with furniture and a BBQ. The lake you see is owned by the neighbours, so you can’t freely walk around it or fish in it without asking them first.

For walking, you can step right out onto the paths. A good local walk is up to the Lumsdale Falls, which is about a 45 minute round trip from here. The cycling routes around here are excellent if you bring bikes.

Matlock Bath is ten minutes away by car. It’s a quirky place on the river. They’ve got the Heights of Abraham cable car, chip shops, and arcades. Their autumn illuminations are a big event.

Within half an hour you can get to Chatsworth House. Bakewell is about twenty minutes away. Further out, you’ve got the Peak District National Park for bigger walks.

Facilities: There’s parking for two cars, a TV, a washing machine, and bedding and towels are included. It’s decorated for Christmas if you book over that period.
