The Counting House

The Counting House is on St John's Street in Wirksworth. It's a semi-detached cottage. It was built as a lawyer's office, which is where the name comes from.

It sleeps two. One bedroom, one en-suite bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. The owners are artists, so the interior is quite distinctive. There's a kingsize sleigh bed. It's been done up for a comfortable stay.

The stairs inside are steep and a bit narrow. They're the original cottage stairs.

You're right in the middle of town. The shops, a few pubs, and restaurants are about a minute's walk away. There's a weekly market and an independent cinema. Wirksworth has a lot of events through the year, like the Well Dressing and an Arts Festival.

For walks, you can start from the doorstep. The Derbyshire Dales are all around. Carsington Water is about ten minutes by car. You can sail, fish, or hire bikes there.

Several big historic houses are within half an hour. Chatsworth is the most famous. Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall are also close. The Derwent Valley Mills, which is a World Heritage Site, starts at Cromford, just down the road.

For facilities: there's a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and highchair if you need them. No pets.
