The Wheelhouse

The Wheelhouse is in Gerrick, North Yorkshire. It's an old stone mill wheelhouse we converted. It's detached and in a field on a farm track, so it's quiet. You'll see the farm's longhorn cattle sometimes. From the field behind the cottage, you can see the sea on a clear day.

It sleeps six in three bedrooms. There are two bathrooms, one on the ground floor. The stairs are a typical cottage spiral, so they're narrow and twist a bit. The main living room is the old wheelhouse itself, with a high ceiling and a big beam. There's a wood burner. The kitchen is modern and has a dishwasher and washing machine.

Outside there's an enclosed patio with a table. You can park right next to the property.

It's a 4 Star grading. That means it's comfortable and well-finished. Bedding and towels are included. We have a cot, highchair, and stairgate if you need them. We allow up to two dogs. You can also bring horses by prior arrangement, there's space to tether them.

The nearest pub is in Liverton, about a mile and a half. There's also a pub and a small shop beside Scaling Dam reservoir, just over two miles away. For a proper supermarket, Guisborough is about a 20 minute drive. We're happy to take in a grocery delivery after 11am on your arrival day.

For the coast, Skinningrove beach is about 15 minutes by car. Saltburn, with its pier, is about 20 minutes. Staithes and Runswick Bay are lovely, and Whitby is about half an hour. You can walk between a lot of these places on the Cleveland Way.

Inland, you're right on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. There's good walking from the door, including into Pinkney Bank Wood. For history, Whitby Abbey and Guisborough Priory are within half an hour.
