The Old Barn is here on our farm, Maddy House Farm. It's a big red brick barn that we converted a while back. It's detached, so it's just you in it, no neighbours through the walls.
It sleeps four, in two bedrooms. Both are upstairs and each has its own ensuite shower room, which is handy. You get towels and bedding. The stairs are a normal flight, not one of those steep cottage ones.
Downstairs is all one big room: kitchen, living area, and a dining table. It's got underfloor heating. We've put in a dishwasher and a washing machine. There's also a separate games room in another barn with a pool table and table football, if the weather turns.
Outside, there's a patio with a table and chairs. You look straight out over our fields. We've got about twenty acres here, so it's very quiet. You can walk straight from the door onto the moor. The views are really good, especially towards Castleton.
Castleton village is about a mile away. It's got a co-op shop, a couple of pubs that do food, and a tea room. For a bigger shop, you'd go to Whitby.
The coast is about twenty minutes in the car. Robin Hood's Bay is great, a proper old fishing village with steep streets. Whitby is about half an hour for the abbey and the harbour. North York Moors National Park website has good walking routes. English Heritage for Whitby Abbey. The steam train through Goathland is worth a trip if you like that sort of thing.
You can bring one dog. There's parking right outside the barn.
