Dale House

Dale House is up on Danby Farm, near Castleton. It's a set of old stone barns they converted about fifteen years ago. It's detached and you get your own garden bit with a patio. The view is straight out over Danby Dale, which is just fields and drystone walls.

It sleeps eight, four bedrooms and two bathrooms. It's got the 5 Star rating, so it's well looked after. Everything works. It's warm, which matters up here. The floors are stone, so it can feel a bit cool underfoot even with underfloor heating.

You're right in the North York Moors National Park. The farm tracks lead straight onto bridleways and footpaths. You can walk for miles without seeing a road. There's a pub and a shop in Castleton village, about a mile down the lane. It's a proper walk, not an amble.

For a day out, Whitby is about twenty minutes' drive. The steam railway goes from there to Pickering through Goathland, which you might know from Heartbeat. The coastal villages like Staithes and Runswick Bay are good, too, maybe half an hour away. Inland, you've got market towns like Helmsley.

In terms of stuff, it's got what you'd expect: dishwasher, washing machine, a wood burner, WiFi, parking right outside. There's a cot and highchair if you need them. The garden's enclosed. No pets allowed, I'm afraid, because of the farm.
