This is the Old Schoolhouse in Commondale. It's an old red brick school converted into four apartments. I live next door in the other half of the building. The Whitby Apartment is on the ground floor.
It’s for two people. One bedroom with an en-suite shower. It’s a 3 Star place, which means it’s clean and serviced, comfortable but not luxury. Everything is on one level inside, but there are a couple of small steps between rooms. The kitchen is compact but has what you need. The parking is where the school playground used to be.
There’s a small communal garden at the front with a bench. The view is over the fields and moor.
The village pub is about a minute's walk away. They do food. Commondale station is a 15 minute walk, and the Esk Valley line goes to Whitby. The train service isn't frequent, but it's a nice way to get there without driving. You can also use it to get to Grosmont for the North York Moors Railway.
You’re right in the North York Moors National Park. The walking is good straight from the door. By car, you can be on the coast in under half an hour. Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay, Staithes, that whole stretch is easy to get to.
You can bring one dog. A lot of the coastal cafes and pubs are fine with them.
Facilities include WiFi, TV, a washing machine, and bedding and towels are provided. The other apartments here can be booked together if you’re in a bigger group.
