High Spy is on the edge of Bassenthwaite village. It's a two bedroom cottage that sleeps five. You've got parking right outside.
The main thing is the view. You look straight out over Bassenthwaite Lake and the fells. It's a quiet spot. There's a stream at the bottom of the garden and a bit of wood with some swings. Ducks come up sometimes.
Inside, it's a 3 Star place. That means it's comfortable and clean, not luxury. There's one bathroom. It's got a wood burning stove for the evenings, and a dishwasher and washing machine. The WiFi works.
The village has a green. You can walk from the door down the lanes. It's about two miles to get to the shore of Bassenthwaite Lake itself. For a proper walk, you can get to Dash Falls from here, or head up Skiddaw if you're feeling fit.
Keswick is a ten minute drive. That's where you'll find Derwentwater, all the outdoor shops, cafes, and the cinema. Cockermouth is about fifteen minutes the other way. It's less busy, has Wordsworth House and some good independent shops.
Within ten minutes drive you've got Dodd Wood with its forest walks and cafe, Mirehouse with its grounds, and St Bega's church by the lake. The Lakes Distillery and the Lake District Wildlife Park are about ten minutes towards Cockermouth.
Further out, Buttermere, Grasmere, Ullswater are all within a 40 minute drive. The National Park is right here. Useful links for planning: Lake District National Park and National Trust Lake District.
Facilities are all listed. Bedding and towels are included. No pets. The garden is enclosed.
