Alt Ardoch Cottage

Alt Ardoch Cottage is in Gortonallister on the Isle of Arran. It's an older, whitewashed cottage that sleeps four, with two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's up a bit of a slope, so you get a great view out over the sea and the hills.

The garden's nice. It's got a lot of flowers and shrubs, and we've put the garden furniture where you can sit and look at the view. You can see Lamlash Bay from there.

The pine woods start right behind the cottage. There are good paths for walking or cycling that'll take you down to Lamlash or Whiting Bay. You're about a twenty minute walk from Lamlash village. It's got a pier, a Co-op for groceries, and places to eat. You can often see seals on the rocks just offshore.

From Lamlash pier you can get a small ferry over to the Holy Isle. It's a Buddhist centre. You can walk around it and see the wild ponies and goats. They ask for quiet and no dogs, so it's something to do on a calm day.

Whiting Bay village is a couple of miles south. It's got a few small shops and a good walk through the woods to Glenashdale Falls. There's a golf course and a pitch and putt there too.

For facilities, you've got a washing machine, a dishwasher, WiFi, and TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's parking for one car on the gravel drive. You can bring up to two dogs. The stairs inside are typical cottage stairs, so they're a bit steeper than modern ones.

If you're planning walks or want to know more about the area, the National Trust for Scotland Arran page is useful, and so is the Visit Scotland guide to Arran.
