Kilbride House

Kilbride House is in Lamlash on the Isle of Arran. It's a detached house right on the edge of the village, so the views are the main thing. You look straight out over the bay to Holy Isle.

It sleeps up to eleven people. Six bedrooms, four bathrooms. It's got a 5 Star rating. It's well looked after and feels new inside, but it's not fussy. Everything just works.

The downstairs living room and kitchen both have big patio doors. They all open onto the garden patio. There's rattan furniture out there. The garden is a decent size and it's yours to use.

The TVs are a talking point. They're set up to look like mirrors when they're off, so they don't stand out. You can watch them if you want, but they don't dominate the room.

All six bedrooms are spread over two upper floors. The top floor has two bedrooms and a separate seating area, which is useful if a couple of people want some quiet time. The main bedroom on the first floor has a little seating area by the window. The view from there in the morning is very good.

You can walk into Lamlash in about ten minutes. There's a shops, a couple of places to eat, and a pub. The beach and the jetty are there too. There are tennis courts and a golf club. The beach is shingle.

For facilities, it's got pretty much everything: parking, WiFi, a washing machine, a dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. No pets, I'm afraid.

The whole island is good for walking and cycling. You can get the ferry from Ardrossan to Brodick. It's about an hour from Glasgow. Useful links for planning: VisitScotland Arran and National Trust for Scotland Arran.
