The Royal Arran is in Whiting Bay on Arran. It's a big house built in 1901, right on the shoreline. You get a clear view of the Holy Isle and the mainland across the water.
It sleeps twelve people. Six bedrooms, eight bathrooms. It's a 5 Star place, which means it's been done up to a high standard. Everything feels finished and considered. All the bedrooms have their own en-suite shower room, and one has a freestanding bath too. There's also a separate family bathroom with a roll-top bath.
The thing to know is there's a burn, a small stream, that runs down the side of the garden. It's not fenced in, so keep an eye on small children. It makes a nice sound though.
Inside, there's plenty of space to spread out. Two main living rooms at the front for the view, a family room off the kitchen, and a separate TV room with a wood burner. The dining room and kitchen also look out to sea. There's a downstairs bedroom which might suit someone who doesn't want to tackle the stairs. The staircase in the hall is the original one, it's quite grand.
You're practically on the beach. It's about twenty yards. The village is a short walk. There's a shop, a post office, a coffee shop, a bar, and a restaurant. There's also a putting green, a bowling green, and a golf club.
For walks, you can go to Glenashdale Falls and the Giants Graves. There are forestry paths to Lamlash or down to Kildonan. The island is good for exploring by car. Brodick Castle is about a twenty minute drive.
Facilities: it's got everything you'd expect. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV, bedding and towels included. There's a cot if needed. On-site parking. Two well-behaved pets are allowed. There's a BBQ and patio areas looking out to sea. There's even an outside toilet.
