Springbank

Springbank is our place in Drimlabarra, on the southern end of Arran. It's a modern house in a quiet cul-de-sac, and you can see the sea from the front.

It sleeps six, three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's light and airy inside because of the big windows, and it's open plan across three floors. That means the stairs are quite open too, so not ideal if you've got very young children who might wander.

There's a double-sided wood burner between the two sitting areas, which is nice in the cooler months. One of the living areas is set up as a bit of a den, with a TV, an Xbox 360 and some bean bags.

Kildonan beach is just a couple of minutes' walk away. You often see seals there. The beach is stony, so don't expect soft sand. There's a hotel along the shorefront, about a five minute walk, which does food and has good views.

For any proper shopping, you'll need to drive. Whiting Bay village is about six miles up the coast and has a shop, places to eat, and a play park. Lamlash is a bit further and has a co-op. Brodick is the main ferry port and has the big supermarket.

The house has an enclosed garden, parking, wifi, a washing machine, and a dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. We can take one well-behaved dog. The entrance is wheelchair accessible, but it's on three floors inside so not all of it is.

For days out, the whole island is accessible. The National Trust for Scotland looks after Brodick Castle and Glen Rosa. The VisitScotland page for Arran has general information.
