The town centre is close, about 300 yards. There's a shop, a pub, and restaurants there. Sheringham has a decent high street with cafes and independent shops.
The North Norfolk Railway steam train runs along the coast here. You can get the mainline train from Sheringham station to Cromer, or further to Norwich. Norwich has the castle and is about 40 minutes by train.
For walking, Sheringham Park is good. It's managed by the National Trust. The coastal path runs right past. Cley Marshes is a famous spot for birdwatching, about a 20 minute drive west.
Cromer is a few miles east, with its pier. Blakeney, for crabbing and boat trips to see the seals, is about 25 minutes by car. Pensthorpe Nature Reserve and the Thursford Collection are both within a 30 minute drive. Holt, which is a Georgian town with lots of antique shops, is about 15 minutes inland.
