Tuckenhay, Millers Thumb

Millers Thumb is in Tuckenhay on the River Dart. It's not on the main river, it's on one of the little creeks. It's a quiet spot.

It sleeps four. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom. The bedroom with the double bed is on the ground floor. The second bedroom has bunk beds and is up a small staircase from the living area. The stairs to that room are quite steep and narrow, just so you know.

The main living space is open plan. Kitchen, dining table, sofas. There's a patio door that opens onto a small private terrace. It gets the sun in the morning. There's a shared garden area as well.

The place has a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and well-equipped. There's a dishwasher, washing machine, TV. Bedding is included. You can bring one dog.

The main thing here is the site. It's a converted paper mill. There are other cottages around, but yours is separate. You get to use the leisure facilities. That means two indoor swimming pools, an outdoor pool, a games room, and a sauna. You walk over a little footbridge from the garden to get to them.

There's a pub, The Maltsters Arms, you can walk to along the creek path. It does food. For a bigger shop, you'd drive to Totnes, which is about three miles. Dartmouth is about five miles.

For beaches, Blackpool Sands is about a 20 minute drive. It's shingle, but it's clean and orderly. Bantham is good for surfing, that's about half an hour. The South West Coast Path is all along there for walking.

If you're planning days out, these sites are useful: National Trust Dartmouth and Greenway and Dartmoor National Park. Dartmoor is about a 30 minute drive inland.

That's about it. It's a good base if you want a mix of river, coast, and having the pools on site.
