Monkshood

This is Monkshood. It's in Devon, near a village called Curtisknowle. It's on a working farm, so you can watch tractors or sheep from the garden. You get views out over the fields.

The place itself is a barn conversion, part of a small courtyard with a few other cottages. It sleeps eight. Four bedrooms, three bathrooms. It's got a 3 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and clean rather than polished. Because it's a barn, the ceilings upstairs can be a bit low in places.

The living space is open plan. There's a wood burner for cooler evenings. You've got an enclosed garden and patio with a barbecue. The garden is shared with the other cottages.

Facilities-wise: There's a heated indoor swimming pool you book time slots for, with a private changing room. The games room has Sky TV, an American pool table, table tennis and table football. There's also a small gym room with a few machines.

There's an off-road motorbike track on site as well. It's run by ACU-accredited instructors. You can book sessions for adults and kids from age seven. All the kit is provided. It's a good option if you fancy something different.

For basics, the nearest shop is three miles away. The closest pub is two miles. For a bigger shop and more restaurants, Totnes is about twenty minutes by car. They have a leisure centre and you can get boat trips down the River Dart from there.

The coast is about a fifteen-minute drive. The stretch between Dartmouth and Kingsbridge has the best beaches and coastal walks. Slapton Sands is one of them. Dartmouth itself is good for boats and a wander. If you want a bigger seaside day out, Torquay or Paignton are about forty minutes.

Dartmoor National Park is about half an hour north for walking. There's golf and horse riding nearby too.

Other useful things: Parking is on site. WiFi is included. The cottage is pet friendly, up to two dogs. There's a washing machine, dishwasher, a cot and a highchair if you need them. Bedding and towels are provided.
