Poppy is one of four cottages here at Wheeldon Farm in Curtisknowle. It’s in the middle of the South Hams, so you’re about halfway between Dartmoor and the coast.
The cottage sleeps seven. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. It’s got a three-star rating, which is about right. It’s comfortable and clean, not a show home.
You’re on a working farm with about 240 acres, so there are fields and footpaths right from the door. The cottage is in a courtyard with the others, so it’s not completely isolated, but you have your own garden and patio.
The main thing here is the on-site stuff. There’s a heated indoor pool you can book privately. There’s a two-floor games room with pool tables, table football, Sky TV and a small fitness area. If you’re interested in motorbikes, there’s an off-road centre next door where you can have lessons. They also offer a free hour on electric bikes to explore.
Totnes is about seven miles away. It’s a fifteen-minute drive. It’s a good town for independent shops and places to eat. Dartmouth and Kingsbridge are both about seven miles too, in the other direction. The coast there has nice beaches and walks. For bigger beaches and seaside things, Paignton and Torquay are about forty minutes by car.
The facilities list covers most things. There’s a wood burner, a dishwasher, WiFi, and parking. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs. There’s a shop three miles away and a pub about two.
