Six Litton Mill

It's called Six Litton Mill. It's a first-floor apartment in an old water mill on the River Wye in Cressbrook, Derbyshire. The building is Victorian, so it's solid. The views from up there, especially over the river and the mill workings, are good. You can hear the water.

It sleeps six. Three bedrooms, all with their own bathrooms. That’s handy. It’s got a 5 Star rating. It’s modern inside, which is a contrast to the old stone outside.

The front door is up a flight of stone steps. It’s not ideal if you’ve got a lot of bags or mobility issues, but once you’re in it’s all on one level. Parking is right outside.

The main living area is open plan. Kitchen, dining, sitting room all together. It’s a big space with big windows looking out.

You’re right on the Monsal Trail. You can walk or cycle straight out onto it. It’s about eight and a half miles long, goes through the old railway tunnels, and follows the river valley. For other walks, Miller’s Dale is on the doorstep. The more rugged stuff around Mam Tor and Castleton is a short drive north. Peak District National Park has all the maps.

The nearest pub is about a mile and a half away in Litton village. There’s a community shop there too. Tideswell is a bit bigger and has a few more shops and pubs. Bakewell is about fifteen minutes by car for a proper supermarket and the famous pudding shops. Buxton is about the same distance the other way.

Facilities are straightforward. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, all the bedding and towels are here. There’s a cot and a highchair if you need them. No pets.

If you’re planning visits, the National Trust has a few local properties like Lyme Park. Chatsworth House is about half an hour’s drive.
