The Old School House
The Old School House is in Tideswell village. It used to be the village school, built in the Victorian times. It's a Grade II listed building, so it's got proper thick stone walls and those Gothic pointed windows. It sleeps four, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It’s got a 4 Star rating.
The garden is across the driveway from the house. It's not enclosed, but it's a nice spot to sit out. You get the whole thing to yourselves.
Inside, it’s spacious. The character comes from the building itself, the high ceilings and the old features. We’ve put in a wood burning stove for the colder months. It’s got all the things you’d expect: WiFi, TV, washing machine, dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. There’s parking right there.
You can bring dogs. Up to two. The stairs are normal, but we’ve fitted a stairgate at the top for little ones. There’s a cot and a highchair in the cupboard under the stairs if you need them.
Tideswell has got a small Co-op for basics, a good butcher, and a fish and chip shop. There are a couple of pubs within a few minutes' walk that do food. The village itself is nice to wander around.
For getting out, you're right in the middle of the Peak District. Good walking straight from the door. Castleton and the caverns are about 20 minutes by car. Bakewell is maybe 25 minutes. Buxton is 15 minutes away if you need a bigger town or to see a show at the opera house. Chatsworth House is roughly half an hour's drive.
