The Causeway

The Causeway is in Eyam, up in the Peak District. It's an old stone cottage, about four hundred years old. It's two up, two down really. Sleeps four. One bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well looked after.

The main thing is the fireplace. It's a proper Derbyshire stone one with a multi-fuel stove. The ceilings are low and beamed, so watch your head if you're tall. The stairs are typical for a place this age, they wind a bit and are steep.

You're right in the middle of the village. The local pub is about fifty yards away. The story goes it's one of the most haunted in Derbyshire, if that's your sort of thing. There's a shop about a hundred and fifty yards up. A couple of tea rooms too.

Eyam itself is famous for the plague story. You can walk around the village and see the plaques. Eyam Hall is just there in the centre.

For getting out, you're spoiled. The Hope Valley is on the doorstep for walking. You can drive to Bakewell in about fifteen minutes for the market and the puddings. Buxton is about half an hour, with the opera house and the pavilion gardens.

Chatsworth is twenty minutes by car. Haddon Hall is about the same. Hardwick Hall is a bit further, maybe forty minutes. For something different, Matlock Bath has the cable cars and amusements along the river, that's about twenty-five minutes.

Facilities wise, it's got what you need. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi. There's a patio garden out the back. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring up to two dogs. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them.
