Highbury Cottage
It's called Highbury Cottage. It's in the old bit of Hathersage. You know the sort of place. The cottage itself is detached, so you've got your own walls all round. It sleeps four. Two bedrooms and one bathroom.
It's got a 4 Star rating. They tell me that means the fixtures and fittings are a bit nicer overall. It feels like a solid, comfortable base.
The garden is enclosed, which is handy if you've got a dog. Oh, sorry, no pets allowed though. My mistake. There's parking on site.
Inside it's got what you'll need. Washing machine, tv, towels are included. There's storage for bikes.
The pub is about a minute's walk away. They do food. The shop is a five minute walk.
You can walk straight out from the door. The Peak District National Park is right there. For a proper day out, Chatsworth House is about twenty minutes by car. So is Haddon Hall. Castleton and the caves are about fifteen minutes. Bakewell is maybe twenty.
If you like being on water, Carsington Water is about a half hour drive. They do sailing and that sort of thing.
Some people like knowing it's the area Charlotte Brontë wrote about in Jane Eyre. I just think it's a nice village.
A couple of things to note. It's an old cottage, so the stairs are a bit steeper than modern ones. And the bathroom has a shower, no bath.
