Barn End Cottage

This is Barn End Cottage, in the hamlet of Blackwell. It's one of a pair of converted stone barns, and it's attached to our house. We're right in the middle of the Peak District.

It's a 4 Star place. That means it's comfortable and well-equipped. It's not huge, but it sleeps four fine. There are two bedrooms upstairs and one bathroom down. The main bedroom has a double bed and looks out at the fields. The second room has twins.

You'll walk straight into the kitchen when you come in. It's got a dishwasher and a washing machine. There's a wood burner in the sitting room. The logs are in the store outside. The garden is enclosed, so it's safe for a dog. We allow one well-behaved pet.

The best thing is the walking. You can step out the door and be on the Monsal Trail or the Limestone Way straight away. The Pennine Bridleway is close too. If you want to hire bikes for the trail, it's about a mile down the road.

Bakewell is ten minutes by car. Buxton is about fifteen minutes. There's a shop on the campsite, maybe a five minute walk. The nearest proper pub is a mile away, so you'll likely drive.

Chatsworth House is a twenty minute drive. Haddon Hall is about the same. Castleton, for the caverns and Mam Tor, is maybe half an hour. There's a golf course nearby, and you can arrange horse riding locally.

Everything's included: electricity, bed linen, towels. There's parking right by the cottage. WiFi works okay, but it's the countryside so it's not super fast.

For planning, these sites are useful: Peak District National Park, National Trust Peak District, and the Castleton tourist site.
