You're on the coast. The beach at Dawlish Warren is mostly sand and is a couple of minutes' walk away. It gets busy in summer because it's good for families. You can see the sea from the carriage.

Dawlish town centre is about a ten minute drive one way, Exeter is about twenty minutes the other. Exeter's got the Cathedral and good shopping. If you like being on the water, there are places that rent kayaks and canoes.
