The Sand House is on Exeter Road, heading out of Exmouth towards the Phear Park area. It’s detached. You're about a 15 minute walk into town and the beach, or a few minutes in the car.
It sleeps eight. Four bedrooms, two bathrooms. It’s got a 5 Star rating. It was refurbished a couple of years ago so everything feels quite new.
The layout is open plan downstairs, with the kitchen, dining and sitting area all together. There’s a sun room off it and a balcony over the garden. The kitchen is well kitted out: two ovens, dishwasher, that sort of thing. There’s also a wine fridge.
Two bedrooms are on the ground floor. One has twin beds that can be zipped together to make a king. The other is a double. The family bathroom is on this floor too, with a bath and separate shower.
The stairs are open tread. At the top there’s a multi-use area with a balcony looking towards the river and park. It has a sofa bed, so it can be used as a fourth bedroom if you need it. The main bedroom on this floor is a kingsize. The second bathroom is up here, with a walk-in shower.
Outside, there’s a patio garden with a BBQ and on-site parking. You can store bikes.
Exmouth beach is two miles long and sandy. You can do all the watersports there: paddleboarding, kayaking, sailing. The town has the usual shops, pubs and restaurants. The South West Coast Path runs right along the front.
Within half an hour you’ve got the start of the Jurassic Coast at Orcombe Point. Budleigh Salterton is just along the coast. Dartmoor is about 40 minutes’ drive. Exeter is 20 minutes away for a bigger city day out.
The Exe Estuary is good for birdwatching, especially in winter. There are boat trips from the marina.
For ideas on days out, the National Trust Devon page is useful, as is the Dartmoor National Park site.
Facilities include all the bedding and towels, a washing machine, WiFi, Smart TV, cot and highchair. No pets, sorry.
