The Old Telephone Exchange

The Old Telephone Exchange is in Ashcombe. It's a detached little bungalow at the top of a valley. The view from the back garden is excellent, straight across the fields.

It sleeps four, but it's all on one floor. There's one proper bedroom area with a double bed, though it's screened from the living space by a curtain, not a door. Then there are two sofa beds in the living area. So it works for a family or two friends, but it's not hugely private. The bathroom is a wet room with an open shower.

There's a steep ladder to a mezzanine area with a mattress, but the details are right: it's not really for sleeping on. The headroom is low and the ladder is a proper ladder, not a staircase. I'd say it's for storing your bags.

The garden is peaceful. You get deer in the field opposite sometimes. It's good for a morning coffee. We say it's partially enclosed, but if you've got small dogs, keep an eye out as they could find a gap.

The nearest proper village is Cockwood, about three miles away. It's got a pub, a shop, and a chippy. For a beach, Dawlish Warren is the closest, about a fifteen minute drive. Teignmouth and Exmouth are a bit further along the coast.

For walking, you're right on the edge of Haldon Forest. You can be on the trails in five minutes by car. It's criss-crossed with tracks for walking and cycling. Exeter is about a twenty minute drive if you need a city or the train station.

Facilities: there's parking right by the cottage, WiFi, a TV, and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. It's a 3 Star place, so it's clean and functional.
