The Observatory

The Observatory is a small, detached cabin just outside the village of Lanreath, on the edge of Bodmin Moor. It sleeps two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. It’s got a four star rating.

The building is unusual. It’s made of copper and zinc, with coloured glass portholes. The main room is open plan. There’s a wood burner for colder nights. The bed is under a skylight, so you can look straight up at the sky from it. That’s where the name comes from.

Outside, there’s a private patio area with views over the valley. It has a cedar wood hot tub.

You can bring one well-behaved dog. There’s parking right next to it. Bedding and towels are included. It’s all electric.

The location is quiet and rural, but the coast isn’t far. Looe and its harbour are about a 15 minute drive. Polperro is very pretty, but can get busy. It’s about 20 minutes away by car. Fowey is a bit further, maybe 25 minutes. It has good shops and places to eat.

Inland, Golitha Falls is a nice walk through woods with streams. It’s about a 20 minute drive. Bodmin Moor starts almost on the doorstep if you want proper walking. The Cheesewring and the Hurlers stone circles are up there.
