The Tabernacle

The Tabernacle is in Lanreath, up on a hill near the edge of Bodmin Moor. It's a little wooden cabin, on its own in a field. It's a shepherd's hut really, though a posh one. Sleeps two, one bedroom, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating so it's comfortable.

It's small inside, but it's laid out well. There's a wood burner which heats the place up nicely. The shower is good and there's underfloor heating. The bed is a kingsize, very comfortable. Outside, there's a deck with a cedar hot tub and a wood-fired stove you can cook on.

The main thing is the view. You look out over fields and hills. It's quiet. At night, with no light pollution, you can see an incredible amount of stars.

Lanreath itself is a small village. There's a shop and a pub, The Plough. It's a proper local, does good food. For bigger shops, you'd go to Liskeard or Bodmin, both about a 20 minute drive.

You're about a 25 minute drive from the south coast. Looe is the closest, it's a fishing town with a harbour. Polperro is prettier, but can get busy. Fowey is nice for a wander and some food. All within half an hour.

Inland, Bodmin Moor is on your doorstep. Good walking. The Golitha Falls are worth a visit, it's an ancient woodland with a river running through it. The National Trust has a few places nearby like Lanhydrock, which is a big house and garden.

Facilities: bedding and towels are included. There's parking right by the hut. One well-behaved dog is welcome.

It's a very peaceful spot. Good if you want to switch off and just look at the view.
