Southview Cottage is in Wellow. It's a thatched cottage, which is nice to look at and it does keep the place cool in summer, but it also means the ceilings are low in spots. If you're very tall, you'll need to watch your head.
It says it sleeps five, but there are only two bedrooms. That's because one room has a double bed and two singles. It's tight and really only works if it's kids sharing. There's one bathroom with a shower over the bath.
The stairs are open, steep and spiral. There's a stairgate at the bottom. It's just a cottage thing, but you need to know.
You've got a good-sized enclosed garden that's all yours. There's a patio, a barbecue, and you can store bikes. You can charge an electric car, which is included.
Wellow itself is quiet. There's a village green and a pub you can walk to. For a big shop, you'll need to drive to Newport, which is about fifteen minutes.
The coast is close. You can be at Yarmouth or Cowes in under twenty minutes. National Trust Isle of Wight has good information on coastal walks and places like The Needles. Carisbrooke Castle is a short drive away. Osborne House is about half an hour.
Inside, it's got a woodburner, a dishwasher, a washing machine, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. No pets.
It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and well-equipped, not luxurious. It's a good base if you want to be somewhere quiet and explore the island.
