If you like walking, climbing, running or cycling there is an abundance of routes available in the vicinity as well as good access to the surrounding Lakeland Fells. Highside is located just a couple of miles from the village of Embleton, between the popular areas of Lorton, Bassenthwaite and Cockermouth. If you fancy a day out, take a 4-mile drive to Cockermouth, the birthplace of William Wordsworth and you won’t be disappointed. It has a good selection of shops, supermarkets, coffee shops and some great dining options. You can even take a tour of the famous Jennings Brewery beneath the old castle walls. If you’re a keen golfer you are just 3½ miles from your nearest course. Or take a trip to Bassenthwaite which is just 5½ miles away. More than just a picturesque lake and quaint village, it is home to the Lakes Distillery producing local gin, whisky and vodka. It’s also home to the Lake District Wildlife Park with over 100 species of animals, perfect for a fun day out with the family.
