Springbank

Springbank is a detached house in Brodick. It's in a quiet sort of estate, not right on the road, so it feels private. You look out over the trees and you can sometimes see Goat Fell.

It sleeps six in three bedrooms. There are two bathrooms, one on each floor. It's classed as a four-star place. It's spacious and comfortable, not cluttered. The stairs are just normal stairs.

The main living area is open plan with a wood burner. The kitchen works. There's a garden with furniture, good for a morning coffee. Everything you'd expect is here: washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring two dogs.

Brodick is a five or ten minute walk downhill. There's a Co-op, some decent pubs, a few cafes. The pier is there too for the ferry. The beach is a mile away.

If you walk the other way, up the hill, you're into Brodick Castle and Country Park. You can spend a whole day there. It's National Trust: Brodick Castle. For the island generally, Visit Scotland has good information.

The big thing here is you can get to most of the island in about half an hour by car. Lochranza and the distillery in the north, Lamlash just round the bay, Whiting Bay down the coast. The main road circles the island.

Honestly, the house is just a good base. Arran is the thing. You can walk up Goat Fell from here if you're fit. Or you can just potter about. It's up to you.
