The Cottage

The Cottage is in Salcombe. It's a detached house on a quiet cul-de-sac. You're up the hill a bit, so you get a good view over the town and the estuary. There's a private parking space, but it's for one car. Not a van.

You get to the front door via 16 steps up through the garden.

It sleeps six. Three bedrooms: two kingsize and one twin room. There are two bathrooms, one shower room on the ground floor and a family bathroom upstairs. The shower room was redone last year. The twin room is small but it has a nice view. You can get to it through one of the double bedrooms, or by its own staircase from downstairs. It works well for families.

Downstairs is mostly the kitchen and dining area, with a snug bit. Upstairs is the main living room. That's where the best view is. There's a small patio off that room. It's a good spot for a drink in the evening.

It's a 3 Star place. It's clean, it works, it's not overly fancy. You're a short walk downhill to Island Street and the water. North Sands and South Sands beaches are close by for swimming.

In Salcombe you can hire boats or paddleboards, get a boat trip, or just sit by the harbour. The South West Coast Path runs right through if you want a walk. For wider planning, the National Trust looks after a lot of the coast nearby.

Facilities: it's got the stuff you'd expect. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. You can bring up to two dogs.

Within about half an hour you can drive to places like Kingsbridge, or Thurlestone for golf. Dartmouth is about 40 minutes. Dartmoor is a bit less than an hour.
