The Shippen is a cottage in East Prawle. It's a converted farm building, which means the rooms are a good size. It sleeps seven, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, which helps with mornings.
It's got a 4 Star rating. It's comfortable and well-equipped, not luxurious. The main room is open plan with a wood burner. It gets the sun in the afternoon. The garden is enclosed, which is handy.
East Prawle is right at the end of the road, so it's quiet. The coast path is about a ten minute walk down the lane. Prawle Point is the southerly tip of Devon. You'll see the coastguard station there. It's all National Trust land, so good for walks. National Trust Prawle Point.
The village has a shop and a cafe, but they're seasonal, open from Easter to autumn. The pub, The Pig's Nose, is open all year. It's a proper local, does food and has live music sometimes.
You can take dogs, up to three. Most of the beaches around here allow dogs all year, which isn't always the case in South Devon.
For a bigger trip, Salcombe is about a 20 minute drive. You can get the passenger ferry from East Portlemouth if you want to avoid the parking. Dartmouth is about half an hour away. If you fancy a steam train, the line from Paignton to Kingswear goes along the river. Dartmouth Steam Railway.
At the cottage, you've got the basics: parking, WiFi, washing machine, dishwasher, a TV. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them.
