Micklethorn is a big house in Broughton, North Yorkshire. It's detached and looks out over fields. It's set back from the A59 road, so it's easy to get to, but you do get a bit of road noise. It's not a quiet country lane.
It sleeps nine people. There are six bedrooms and three bathrooms, so it suits a big family or a group. The stairs are a bit steep in places, typical for an old house. There are two separate staircases, which is useful. There's a single bedroom up in the eaves that kids usually like. Down in the basement, there's a room set up as a play area for children.
You get a large lawned garden at the front, all the way down to the road. Less than half a mile away, just across the A59, is Broughton Hall Estate. You're allowed to walk in the grounds there, which are thousands of acres. You'll see peacocks and sheep. They also run Land Rover off-road driving experiences on the estate if that's your thing.
Skipton is about four miles away. It's a proper market town with a castle, a high street, and a market. There's a leisure centre, a bowling alley, and a cinema if the weather's bad. Bolton Abbey and Grassington are both within a half hour drive. Ilkley is too. If you go west on the A59, you're into Lancashire and the Forest of Bowland in less than thirty minutes.
There's a pub that does food about a mile away. The house has a farmhouse-style kitchen and dining area, two living rooms, and a small library space. We leave a welcome pack with some basics when you arrive.
Facilities: parking, garden, BBQ, WiFi, TV, washing machine, dishwasher, cot, highchair, stairgate. It's listed as a luxury property with a 4 Star rating. We allow up to two pets.
