Broughton Hall

Broughton Hall is in Broughton, North Yorkshire. It sits on its own estate of 3000 acres, just on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It's a historic house, mostly from the 16th century, and it's still owned and run by the family.

It sleeps 32 people. There are 17 bedrooms and 13 bathrooms. It's a 5 Star property, which in this case means it's a full-service, luxury let. You'll have a chef and a small team of staff looking after you during your stay. They'll do the cooking, turn down the beds, and keep the fires going. You don't need to do much.

The main house is grand. You enter through a pillared porch into a big saloon. There are several drawing rooms with open fires, a library with thousands of books, a billiards room, and a conservatory that leads out to the garden. The formal dining room seats everyone. Some rooms have notable furniture, like pieces by Gillows of Lancaster. One drawing room was used as a film location.

The bedrooms are all different and named individually. They're on the first and second floors. Most have en-suite bathrooms. Some have four-poster beds. One has a free-standing copper bath. On the second floor, there's a penthouse area with its own living space, Sky TV, and a record player.

Outside, you have the run of the gardens and the wider estate. There's a tennis court. The river runs through the grounds and there are walks from the door, including one to the local pub.

It's the sort of place you book for a very large family gathering, a special celebration, or a wedding. It's not a casual weekend cottage.
