Set in stunning 12 acre private grounds with its own lake, ponds, woodland and meadows, Lily Pad is a nature lover’s paradise teeming with birds, butterflies and other British wildlife. The land is part of a rewilding project and we ask our guests to respect this. Guests are welcome to explore the grounds meadows and woodland to the west of the main house . Take car of slippery paths, bridges and walkways and guests walk at their own risk as meadow and woodland paths may have trip hazards. Ground nesting birds waterfowl, wild red deer and fawns often hide in the long grasses and are vulnerable to dogs so please don’t let dogs roam unsupervised
A cosy one-bedroom barn conversion ideally suited to a couple looking for a peaceful rural holiday. The property shares its picturesque grounds with a picture postcard thatched property and it is located just a 1½ miles from the charming village of Witheridge which is set within a beautiful band of mid-Devon countryside between Exmoor and Dartmoor.
The barn was converted in 2000 and has an open plan sleeping and living area on the ground floor, as well as a shower room. The living area feels homely and welcoming with its vaulted ceiling, wood burner, dining table and comfortable seating. Two steps lead down to the sleeping area with a double bed and the shower room leading off it. The kitchen area on the mezzanine level above is open with the rest of the barn with Velux windows creating a space abundant with light, and with wonderful views to the west over a pond, woodland and fields. The barn has a pretty patio and outdoor seating area to the side which overlooks the large lake, an ideal space for al fresco dining enjoying magnificent views. The gardens open directly into the adjoining pasture and woodland and here, pathways have been created between the trees with a footbridge leading to an elevated walkway and on into mixed woodland. Wildlife is attracted by the water including deer, ducks, moorhens, a heron and other birds.
This part of Devon is an excellent touring base with easy access to lots of places of interest. In nearby Witheridge you can dine at the various welcoming eateries, stock up on essentials at the two convenience stores and post office or enjoy leisurely riverside walks. Nearby you can explore the Two Moors Way, visit RHS Rosemoor, the Grand Western Canal, Knightshayes House or the breathtaking scenery at Exmoor National Park, a short drive away. The accommodation is set midway between Devon’s two coastlines, convenient for a day out to either. The award-winning North Devon coastline is within a 50-minute drive with its golden sandy surfing beaches and the Jurassic South Devon coastal beauty spots are within an hour’s drive.
