Minehead is situated on the edge of the Exmoor National Park which has delightful moorland, woodland and coastal countryside. The house is in an elevated position among thatched cottages on the slopes of North Hill. Shops and cafes are a couple of minutes’ walk downhill; the South West Coast Path begins nearby and there are woodland walks towards Porlock. The West Somerset Steam Railway has its station in town with regular services towards Taunton. The Exmoor Coaster open-top bus runs, via the steep hairpin bends at Porlock, over the moorland to Lynmouth where the main attraction is the water-powered funicular cliff railway up to Lynton. Dunster, with its fine hilltop castle, is 2 miles away. Dunkery Beacon and Lorna Doone Country are within 8 miles.
This former school was converted into three delightful cottages in 2021. No 2 has charm and character with extensive oak flooring, wood panelling and exposed beams. The open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner has dual aspect views over the nearby hills. Relax in the lounge with two large sofas and read from a selection of books or take in a film on the smart TV. Plan the next day’s outing with the maps and guides available. The perfectly equipped kitchen has a Rangemaster with a gas hob and electric ovens, a fridge-freezer, dishwasher and microwave and is a great space for lazy breakfasts or trying out new recipes. There is a utility room with a washer/dryer and toilet.
Outside is a south-facing decked area with plenty of space to sit and enjoy a morning coffee and admire the views. When the sun gets too hot an electric awning can be deployed for shade. Across the parking area is a raised deck surrounded by planted areas with shrubs and a flower border, and within earshot of the small stream which runs down the hill. Shop, pubs and cafés within 1 mile. Beach 1 mile.
