Dunraven Bay, on South Wales’s beautiful Glamorgan Heritage Coast, is a 5-minute walk away from Slade Cottage through a lovely woodland valley. A light, spacious holiday cottage, the perfect setting for a memorable family holiday. At the end of a 600-yard private driveway and surrounded by organic pastureland, the holiday cottage, together with The Hen House, is set in the small courtyard of Slade, a gentleman’s residence formerly part of the now privately owned Dunraven Estate at Southerndown. Included in the estate is Slade Farm, a premier organic and award-winning farm, with its own farm shop in nearby St Brides Major.
In the kitchen an oil fired Aga creates a warm hub to the house. The comfortable living room and ground floor bedroom open onto a large garden room which overlooks six beautiful and carefully tended landscaped acres of Slade Garden. The shared garden is the real gem of the property with masses of spring flowers, terraced lawns and mature trees, living willow arbours and rose and clematis pergolas, a very natural garden that is open annually within the National Gardens scheme. It’s a wonderful place to relax and explore, The walled front courtyard is a private, sheltered outdoor space for barbecues or just for enjoying the good weather. Guided farm walks, tractor rides and a wealth of information about the farm, the local natural environment and organics are all available to cottage visitors. Within walking distance is the local pub or try the Italian restaurant for a wonderful Italian meal, very family friendly. Ogmore’s fascinating ruined castle is reached by fifty-two stepping stones cross over the River Ewenny . Originally on the site of an Iron Age hillfort, all that remains of Dunraven Castle, home of the ghostly ’blue lady’, is the walled garden above Dunraven Bay.
Slade Cottage can be booked together with The Hen House to accommodate up to 14 guests.
