Poppy Cottage

Poppy Cottage is a delightful ’chocolate box’ cottage on the outside but with a stunning open plan interior with far reaching valley views from the living area and large terraced gardens. Situated at the heart of Blackawton, a pretty village in the South Hams between Totnes and Dartmouth, next door to the dog-friendly village inn. It is perfect for families, couples and friends wanting a taste of village life and maybe a glass of something at the end of a day exploring this stunning location, or why not take a break from the cooking and enjoy a lunchtime snack, evening meal or a takeaway of home-cooked food, all utilising local produce?
Blackawton is a delightful Devon village with a community shop and historic church, and hosts an annual Worm Charming Festival in May which is fun for the whole family! Everyone is welcome to attend and join in the variety of activities. The property is well situated for Dartmouths’ annual events too, such as the music festival in May, the Royal Regatta in August, and comedy and food festivals. Blackawton is also very locally renowned for a terrific bonfire, sculpted to an object,, and firework night in November.
The property is surrounded by the South Hams beautiful countryside, wonderful beaches and 630 miles of breathtaking South West Coastal Paths. Just a 15-minute drive to the coast where there are popular beaches such as Blackpool Sands, Slapton Sands and Torcross, and many little coves. If it’s the waves you’re searching for, Bantham and Challaborough are renowned for surfing and windsurfing, and nearby Bigbury has a surf school.
For family fun, Woodlands Family Theme Park is a must, with rides, activities and a petting farm and is just 1 mile away. Splashdown Water Park Quaywest is located on Goodrington Sands beach near Paignton and is the largest outdoor waterpark in the UK with eight water slides, small splash pools for youngsters and a swimming pool, making a great day out for all the family.
Walking, cycling, golf, riding, fishing, surfing and sailing are all available in this stunning area and there are many National Trust properties to explore. If it’s a day of pampering you prefer, then why not try the Dartmouth Golf and Country Club Spa just 1½ miles away, with indoor swimming pool, gym and sauna. The spa itself is surrounded by the two stunning golf courses, both created with sweeping fairways. Poppy Cottage is the ideal holiday choice at any time of year.
