Buckland Monachorum is an attractive village near Yelverton situated on the River Tavy, on the western edge of Dartmoor. The village is famous for its association with Sir Francis Drake, who lived at Buckland Abbey just outside the town. Drake’s pew is within the church, with a carving of his ship, the Golden Hind, incised in the side panel. In the village is Garden House, an 8-acre modern garden that has been called ’The best in Britain’. Just a short drive away is the well known Buckland Abbey, a fantastic day out for all the family and the village of Yelverton is also within easy reach, offering a number of shops, cafes and restaurants. Surrounded by Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Tamar Valley and Dartmoor National Park, there is no shortage of walking and cycling routes.
