Deep within the beauty of Bodmin Moor, you will discover St Luke’s Chapel. Sympathetically and lovingly renovated to create a wonderful dwelling, with many original features carefully retained, this is a very special place indeed.
The annexe is a part of the chapel, with original Cornish stone, original beams and oozing character at every turn. With links as far back as medieval times, the chapel provides a captivating place in local history. With views that will take your breath away, wildlife in abundance including deer, buzzards, owls and badgers as well as shy otters, this is the perfect getaway for relaxing or exploring this magical part of the county. Dark skies above show the swirling Milky Way and a million stars and planets too and you will be struck by the peace and tranquillity around you. The annexe is set on two floors, with the open plan living/dining room and well-equipped kitchen on the first floor and cosy double bedroom and en-suite shower room on the ground floor. A granite fireplace with wood burner sets the scene on a windy, stormy night whilst there is a large wall-mounted TV for those lazy days. Both floors have stable doors.
Just 5 minutes’ drive away you will find the world-famous Jamaica Inn, made famous by Daphne Du Maurier and once a haven for smugglers and highwaymen as they transported contraband across the moor. The vistas from the tors of Brown Willy and Rough Tor are sublime, whilst the impressive Golitha Falls has waterfalls and its own particular microclimate. Within easy access of the main A30 through Cornwall, the ancient towns of Launceston and Bodmin are a short distance away. Bodmin itself has a magnificent jail, now a tourist experience designed to terrify and reveal what life was like behind bar in times past. The heritage steam railway is a delight. Both towns have a mixture of restaurants, pubs and shops and you can hire a bicycle and follow the revered Camel Trail as it winds its way to Wadebridge and onto Padstow, famed for its superb restaurants and beaches. Should you be a golfer, then you will find golf around 10 miles away.
